Cabin tops, plate repairs, fuel tanks, anti-pitting plating. Twenty years on the canals, a boat builder as well as a welder. Mike built his own steel narrowboat and lives on it in Gravesend, and knows the work end to end.
Scope scales with the project, but these four are the spine of any narrowboat refit & repair engagement with MMA Welding.
Cabin top replacement plates, side and bottom plating, and the structural plate work behind a refit.
Mild and stainless fuel tanks, water tanks, and the marine plumbing fit-out around them.
Over-plating where the original hull has thinned through pitting. Honest about when it can be saved and when it cannot.
Twenty years on the canals means we know who else to call in for the joinery, electrics and engine work around the welding scope.
Yes. Mike built his own steel narrowboat from scratch over several years, plate by plate, weld by weld. He lives on it now in Gravesend.
For above-waterline work we can weld at the mooring if site conditions allow. For hull plate replacement or over-plating below the waterline the boat has to come out at a yard.
Ultrasonic thickness readings on the suspect plate plus a visual inspection. Below the survey threshold the plate has to come out. Above it, over-plating is usually the right call.
MMA Welding covers the M25 and South East as a matter of course. Travel beyond on negotiation.
